Inevitably, using FlexQuery will result in a large number of Custom Views. Being able to isolate the Custom Views is important as doing so helps to mimimize lost time. FlexQuery provides a number of means to do this.

 

GROUPS

Groups are provided to make it easier to bundle several Custom Views. A query can belong to multiple groups. Some examples of groups are:

  • Today
  • Yesterday
  • This week
  • Last Week
  • This month
  • Last Month
  • Jeff’s Views

Source Queries cannot be grouped.

In My FlexQuery, the groups are available for selection from a dropdown selector:

A query can be added to a group in the Custom View Designer. Click the button on the right of the custom view and the designer appears. The group dropdown allows any existing group to be selected. Just tick as many groups as are appropriate. It would not be appropriate to include a Custom View with an auto date of Today in a monthly group as it will automatically select a date range matching today.

Within a group, FlexQuery uses Categories and Types to help filter the Custom Views. As installed, the display of Custom Views is grouped by Category and type, providing ‘drilldown’ access to the queries.

However, it is possible to list all queries without grouping by ticking the option on the status bar (at the bottom of the FlexQuery window).

The number of Custom Views is reduced if you set up groups or you can filter in a similar fashion to filtering data produced by a query:

It is also possible to launch FlexQuery from a shortcut to show only one Category. This is a command line option. An example is below:

If there are any spaces in the Category name, remember to use Double Quotes around the parameter. Eg “C:1. Today”
